SALUTEMYJOB were thrilled to attend the launch of a year long challenge for eight inspirational women veterans’ who are set to take one of the toughest bicycle endurance events in the world.
Leadership Challenges launched their ‘Mind over Matter’ team at the Velodrome in London on Friday (28 September) and SaluteMyJob Managing Director Andrew Jackson was there to offer SaluteMyJob’s support. He said: “We are delighted to support the team on this amazing challenge. Our job is to help the participants on their journeys into employment, or other meaningful occupations, which will be helped significantly by the confidence they will gain from their achievement”.
The team are the first British female, wounded, injured and sick (WIS) team entry for the Race Across America, in June 2019. They have already overcome their own huge personal challenges with life changing conditions amongst them, including paralysis, amputations, spinal-cord injuries, strokes and PTSD. Many of them are either currently serving, or are veterans of the UK military.
The women will work together to go from the Pacific to the Atlantic Oceans, from Oceanside in California to Annapolis in Maryland, cycling non-stop in shifts over 3,000 miles, crossing 12 states, climbing over 190,000 feet across both the Rockies and the Appalachians, and passing through deserts in temperatures that can reach 45 degrees Celsius.
